    President Welcome

    Welcome and/or welcome back!

I hope you and your families had a wonderful summer and can you believe that the school year is already upon us?  Even though it will be difficult to say good bye to the long summer days (and nights!), it is also just as exciting to welcome a new school year.  Some of us have been at Hilltop for many years (my family included!), but for many of you this is your first experience at Hilltop.  Even more exciting, for many of you this will be your child’s first school experience.  You have chosen a wonderful program and your children will be loved, cared for, and stimulated like no other school can do.  I’m sure that you have already witnessed the joy in you child’s eyes when they first visited Hilltop and that is why you have selected us – you’ve made a wonderful choice.  Hilltop allows each child's uniqueness and individuality to shine and be nurtured in an atmosphere of respect and caring.  It also offers our children to learn self awareness and reliance, empathy and respect for others. This philosophy, “learning with love” extends not only to the classroom, but also can be practiced in our homes as well.  So don’t forget to attend the MANDATORY Philosophy and Parent In-service on Friday, September 11th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

During orientation, you will receive valuable information on how to interact with the students and best facilitate their learning, as well as an introduction to your Parent Effectiveness Training Book.  This free workshop is Mandatory for all families, including returning families. It will be a great review and will be an opportunity to meet the new families and share your experiences at Hilltop with them.
Note: (Co-op working parents also need to attend Orientation & Classroom Mechanics which will be held on Thursday, September 10th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm).

Being a part of a co-op is an incredible experience.  You have become part of a community that is dedicated, committed to providing the best schooling experience for our children.  A perfect example of this is Hilltop’s physical space.  The yard, garden, classrooms, deck and the mural were all put into place by Hilltop parents and teachers.  Yes, it was hard work, but it is so rewarding when our direct efforts are enjoyed by our children everyday.  And the mural… Can you believe how beautiful the mural is?  Parents spent hours and hours painting this mural (special thanks to the artist Kerrie in Texas!) . The mural depicts what Hilltop is all about and even passers by are commenting on how amazing it is.  It was great to see so many families come out and make a contribution to the "big picture" - literally!

    August Scenes 1

We have an amazing year planned.  Our Annual Auction is approaching quickly on November 13th.  Not only is this event our biggest fundraiser of the year, but it also serves as an evening where we can mingle with other grown-ups, imagine that!  Other events planned for the year include but are not limited to field-trips, classroom celebrations, Safari Night and the Spring Festival.  So keep your eye on the calendar and event announcements.

Again, welcome and/or welcome back and here’s to a magnificent school year!

    Love,
    Lisa Mullens

    First Day of School Checklist

Monday September 14th is the first day/week of school. On your child's first day, please provide the following:

  • Any outstanding registration paperwork not turned in at Registration Day.
  • A complete change of clothes (or two or three) including shoes.
  • Earthquake kit.
  • Sack lunch that does not require refrigeration.
  • Please apply sunscreen prior to school as needed.

  • Auction 2009 - Time to get Busy!

Hilltop raises over 25% of its operating budget from our annual auction, so is vital that all families plan to attend the auction on Friday, November 13th (and bring as many guests as you can!).

This year the auction's theme is Dancing for our Stars, and the event will include dinner, live music, and dancing. And of course our famous live & silent auctions!

To make the auction a success please:

    1) Save the date on your calendar right now: Friday, November 13th from 6pm to 10pm.

    2) Secure a babysitter now as this event is adults only!

    3) Sell at least 4 tickets per family ($30 per ticket). Sell more if you can!

    4) Sell at least 20 tickets for our 50/50 raffle ($1 per ticket). Sell more if you can! Winner does not need to be present, so this is a great item to sell to co-workers and out-of-town relatives!

    5) Collect donations worth $150 or more

If you didn't receive your auction packet at Registration Day, you will receive it at Orientation. The packet contains a sample donation letter and all the information you need to get started.

Please start working on your donations now - Hilltop's financial health depends on every family working hard to make the auction a huge success!
